Area water providers have come together to finance a major expansion of the Northeast Water Purification Plant, providing fresh drinking water and meeting the mandate to reduce our areas dependence on groundwater.

The Northeast Water Purification Plant Expansion Project will be closed on most standard holidays.  We will post updates here as needed.  For further information please email us at newppexpansion@gmail.com.

Plant expansion

The new treatment facility will be constructed next to the current plant and sized to achieve 320 million gallons per day of treated water capacity in addition to the current 80 million gallons per day treated water capacity.

Pipeline

Two 108” pipes will carry the water from the intake pump station in Lake Houston to the Northeast Water Purification Plant facility. The new pipes will run alongside the current pipeline.

Intake pump station

A new Intake Pump Station will be constructed in Lake Houston approximately 900 feet from the shore.  This advanced facility will withdraw water from Lake Houston and deliver it through the pipeline to the treatment facilities located about 1.5 miles away.

BUILDING A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

By 2025, surface water – rather than groundwater – must supply at least 60 percent of the water we use increasing to 80 percent by 2035. The Northeast Water Purification Plant expansion is a critical part of this conversion from groundwater to surface water.  This plant treats Lake Houston water and turns it into drinking water for parts of Harris and Fort Bend counties and surrounding areas.
